Big Bend overlooks Queenstown’s lake Wakatipu. It is a holiday home intended to be rugged in character, in response to its sublime mountain setting.
The house is organised across two levels, with the upper floor approached from the street via an internal garden courtyard. A sinuous in-situ stairway runs through the core of the house. The sculptural qualities of raw concrete are celebrated in the massing of the curved Western façade, which twists the two floors of the house away from each other in one big bend.
